Rangers terrace anthem reimagined as fan favourite used in touching NHS tribute

A Rangers terrace favourite has been given a reworking by a British diplomat in tribute to the NHS.

Chris Sainty, a government ambassador to Portugal, was taking requests in honour of our health service at their time of need and was happy to take on a favourite among the Ibrox faithful.

And one Rangers supporter's request for a rendition for the 'Blue Sea of Ibrox' hit the right note.

He posted on Twitter: "This is a special request from Alan Kerrigan and it’s for all my friends north of the border.

"What a lovely tune.

"Sorry I’m not wearing the right colour shirt."

The 'Blue Sea of Ibrox', a song from yesteryear, has been brought back to prominence in recent seasons with the rousing chorus ringing on European nights and clashes with Premiership rivals Celtic.

The song tells the story of a supporter who has moved away from Glasgow but still dreams of the days of cheering on Rangers from the stands.

Sainty's touch comes with the Scotland gripped by the coronavirus pandemic as the general public search for ways to salute our medics with the death toll rising daily.
