Rangers teen Charlie Lindsay named top player at Alkass International Cup

East Belfast teenager Charlie Lindsay's stock is on the rise after he was named Most Valuable Player (MVP) at the Alkass International Cup.

Lindsay captained Rangers Under 17's at the prestigious tournament, held at the Aspire Academy in Qatar.

The Scottish club reached the knockout stage before losing out to Mohammed VI Academy.

Rangers enjoyed a win and a draw in the group stages, and also recorded wins over Kashiwa Reysol and Aspire Academy to secure a fifth-place finish.

Lindsay scored six goals during the tournament, including a wonder free-kick, finishing as joint top scorer with Zenit's Igor Kozlov.

The Glentoran 15-year-old - who is set to join Rangers when he turns 16 - was named MVP, having also picked up four player of the match awards.

The tournament was won by Real Madrid who hammered Inter Milan 5-0 in the final at Aspire Academy.

Lindsay has enjoyed a meteoric rise in his fledgling career.

He became Glentoran's youngest ever player last year when he came on as a second half substitute in the Co Antrim Shield win over Ballyclare Comrades.

At just 15 years, five months and 24 days old, the teenager's appearance saw him eclipse the previous record of Ethan Warnock which had stood since December 2016.

He was also part of Rangers' SuperCupNI-winning team at last year's tournament.
