Rangers team news v St Johnstone revealed as only some of Steven Gerrard's big guns return to the fold

Not only is Steven Gerrard back from his Covid isolation, but so are his big guns.

Rangers take on St Johnstone in the Premiership lunchtime kick and Gerrard has named the team that will start at McDiarmid Park.

Allan McGregor returns to the squad after Robby McCrorie deputised brilliantly against Alashkert and Celtic, although it's Jon McLaughlin who's handed a starting spot between the sticks.

Captain James Tavernier is in at right back, which is timely after Nathan Patterson suffered an injury on Scotland duty.

Calvin Bassey can feature again and he replaces Borna Barisic at left back with the Croatian dropping to the bench.

Ianis Hagi is out. Covid has robbed the Gers of the Romanian after he tested positive whilst on international duty this week. Connor Goldson also misses out after being an ever present since the start of last season, playing 81 games in succession.

Ryan Jack remains out injured although could make his return in the coming weeks, and there’s a potential first glimpse of new signing Juninho Bacuna.

Rangers: McLaughlin, Tavernier, Balogun, Helander, Bassey, Kamara, Davis, Aribo, Kent, Roofe, Morelos.

Subs: McGregor, Lundstram, Simpson, Wright, Sakala, Barisic, Arfield.
