Claudio Marchisio will make an announcement on his future this week, having been linked with Rangers over the summer.
The midfielder is a free agent after leaving Zenit St Petersburg, and it has been rumoured he was approached by Steven Gerrard about moving to Ibrox, though the Gers manager extinguished any transfer talk last month.
The Ibrox boss said: "It’s just another name that gets bandied about.
"He is a fantastic player - I played against him. I love the player but there is no truth in that."
Now it has been announced that Marchisio will make a statement on his future this week - and it appears a return to former club Juventus could be on the cards, possibly in a directorship role.
Sky Sport Italia reports that the former Italy international has called a press conference for Thursday, which will be held at Juve's Allianz Stadium.
The outlet states that Marchisio has "an important announcement to make", and that he's rejected numerous offers from China, Japan and the UAE.
The 33-year-old has struggled with knee problems in recent years and was released by Zenit St Petersburg after making just 15 appearances.
It's therefore possible that he is announcing he'll retire to take up a role with Juventus, the team he supported as a boy and for whom he played close to 400 games.
Marchisio won seven Serie A titles and four Coppe Italias with the Bianconeri , as well as the Russian title with Zenit last season.
He has been capped 55 times by Italy, helping them reach the final of Euro 2012 .
