Ben Davies is an 'all round player' and is the perfect man to fill the void left by Calvin Bassey's move to Ajax.
That's the verdict of former Hibs star Daryl Horgan, who played alongside the stopper at Preston North End before his switch to Liverpool. He has hailed the Rangers target as 'brilliant' as he outlined the key attributes he would bring to Giovanni van Bronckhorst's side.
Versatile defender Bassey is on the verge of a big money move to Dutch giants Ajax and the Light Blues appear to be wasting no time in replacing him by bringing in the once Celtic-linked defender.
It's set to be a massive couple of weeks for Rangers with the Premiership kick-off and Champions League qualifiers on the horizon. The Ibrox men learned their third qualifying fate yesterday as they come up against Belgian outfit Union Saint-Gilloise with the winner reaching the play-off round.

In their bid to dine at Europe's top table Van Bronckhorst has strengthened his ranks with the arrivals of John Souttar, Antonio Colak, Tom Lawrence, Rabbi Matondo and Malik Tillman to date. Joe Aribo has headed the other way to Southampton with Bassey set to follow imminently. His departure will see Davies arrive and his former colleague has given Rangers fans a rundown of what they can expect from the stopper.
He told the Scottish Sun: “I played a season with Ben Davies and he was brilliant.
“He had been on loan at Fleetwood where he had a good year, he carried that on with Preston.
“He was excellent on the park and he is a lovely left-footed centre half. Ben reads the game and utilises his pace and intelligence really well.
“He might not be the biggest in the world, but he has a good leap and can handle himself.
“Ben is an all round player and I’m sure he will settle into Rangers really well. Bassey leaving will be a blow, and it looks like he is going to have an incredible career.
“He has everything that you want. It’s a great bit of business for Rangers and a good move for him, but Davies is a good replacement for him.
“He has big shoes to fill and he might not be the exact same type of player as Bassey. But he is well equipped to play at the highest level, and I can see him doing well.
“You look at the run Rangers had to the Europa League final last season, and they had some incredible nights.
“They will want to recreate that this year and who wouldn’t want to be a part of that?”
