Rangers take shelter from the storm as Alfredo Morelos gets the drop on Jordan Jones

Rangers' stars were spared an icy battering on Tuesday as Steven Gerrard ordered training indoors.

Scotland remains at the mercy of the elements with snow and hail following the gale-force gusts brought down by Storm Ciara.

Gerrard's team are preparing for yet another vital Premiership encounter as they visit Kilmarnock.

And they can ill-afford any more dropped points with Celtic already seven clear at the league summit.

Rangers may have to see off Killie without Borna Barisic - the left-back was missing from training as he battles for fitness.

Gerrard will give the influential Croatian every chance to make it as he sat out the morning session.

The return of Ryan Jack will be most welcome for the manager as he drilled his players on the artificial turf.

The midfielder is available and in contention to start against the Ayrshiremen.

Gerrard wants more goals from his engine room but not due to a lack of confidence in Alfredo Morelos.

He's backed the striker to kick on from his goal at Hamilton after, by his own lofty standards, a run of three games without a goal.

And the Colombian looked very much his usual self at the Hummel Training Centre as he messed around with Jordan Jones and James Tavernier.

Jones made the mistake of turning his back on Morelos and received a playful knock on the back of the head for his trouble.

Before training, Gerrard opened up on his faith that the 23-year-old will rediscover his early season goalscoring touch, as well as lifting the lid on a series of heart to heart chats.

He said: "We always support all the players across the board. Family is first for me always, so it's not just with Alfredo, I'm there for all the players to talk to. My door is always open.

"As a club, from top to bottom we always try to look after all the players, whether they be in the first team or the academy.

"Alfredo's mindset looked alright at the weekend. He played his part in another win. I thought he looked like he was getting sharper in the Hibs game.

"He finished that game really strong then took that form into the weekend and got his goal, which is always important for a striker.

"I had a couple of chats with him after the winter break and he seems like he is OK to carry on playing."
