Rangers have taken aim at the SFA’s handling of disciplinary complaints as the Ibrox side blasted ‘confusion’ surrounding the current citation system.
Forward Kemar Roofe became the latest Gers player to receive a retrospective ban from the footballing authorities after a studs up challenge on St Johnstone midfielder Murray Davidson.
The 28-year-old was initially booked by the match official during Rangers' 1-0 win earlier this month but a fast track hearing overseen by a three-man panel of former referees declared it dangerous play and upgraded the decision to a two-match ban.
Teammate Alfredo Morelos was slapped with a three-match suspension for stamping on the thigh of Hibs defender Ryan Porteous in the meeting between the sides last month.
The decision sparked fury from manager Steven Gerrard, who demanded a review into the way incidents are cited to the disciplinary process.
Morelos was also banned for two games early in the season when his illicit arm to the face of Dundee United defender Mark Connolly only received a yellow card during the match itself.
But the Ibrox side have been left fuming by the latest decision, which leaves Roofe unavailable for the home clash with Kilmarnock this Saturday and next weekend’s hosting of Dundee United, heightening calls for a rethink of the system
“Rangers recently called for consistency in the Scottish FA’s disciplinary process,” it said
“There seems to be real confusion within the game regarding which incidents are cited and those that are not.
“This confusion solidifies our viewpoint regarding the current system.
