Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos shouldn't have taken Celtic penalty says Andy Halliday

Andy Halliday believes Alfredo Morelos was the wrong man to take his side's penalty against Celtic.

Morelos endured a frustrating afternoon in December's Betfred Cup Final, during which he was persistently thwarted by Celtic keeper Fraser Forster.

Neil Lennon's side won 1-0, and in one of the game's key moments Forster saved the striker's penalty.

Asked on Open Goal's Keeping the Ball on the Ground podcast if he wanted Morelos to take the penalty, former Ibrox team-mate Andy Halliday said: "No, if I'm honest, no.

"See the thing is with Alfredo? I'd go as far to say he's a poor finisher, but he's an unbelievable goalscorer.

"He's one of those who you'd watch in game and training and he'd scaff everything into the bottom corner and you'd think that was ugly as anything, but it just goes in all the time.

"I think the biggest thing you need with penalties is composure which is why I felt Tav was a brilliant penalty taker for us.

"Although it got took off him because I think he missed two in a row, he took so many pressure penalties and scored them.

"I didn't want Alfredo to take that penalty, no.

"It's similar to the Scottish Cup semi-final when Patrick Roberts missed that chance.

"You do think, this is our day. Certain stuff's going for you, certain stuff's not.

"On that day, just nothing went for us.

It's probably one of the most one-sided Old Firm games I've played in in terms of Rangers' favour.

"Just nothing went for us. Fraser Forster was just unbelievable on the day.

"Nothing really went for Alfredo either. The majority of the chances fell to him.

"At the end of that game, that was one where the dressing room was real low.

"It felt like a chance missed in terms of throughout the game we felt we deserved to win it."
