Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos missing from Premiership as star admits relief

Calum Waters admits his side will face a tough test at Ibrox tonight – and he expects a barrage similar to "The Alamo".

The Kilmarnock star on loan to St Mirren has only ever played in Govan once, in a narrow 1-0 defeat while on loan at Dumbarton.

And while he knows his new Buddies are in for a rough ride against the Premiership’s in-form side, he hopes the fact Rangers are missing their key striker Alfredo Morelos through suspension will help them keep the free-scoring Light Blues out.

“They’re probably the form team in the league at the moment,” he told our sister paper the Paisley Daily Express.

“Celtic and Rangers will always be hard whatever form they’re in, especially when they’re at home.

“It’ll be really difficult so we just have to hang in there for as long as we can.

“The Broxburn game was tough but I thought in the end we’d come through.

“It’s a polar opposite to what we face next. It’ll probably be like the Alamo and we’ll be feeling like Broxburn did on Wednesday night.

“Morelos is their top scorer so it’s got to be a bonus he’s missing out. Hopefully we can use it to our advantage.”

The 23-year-old added: “All the boys who have played in front of that big crowd will try and help the new lads who haven’t experienced it before.

“Hopefully then it won’t be as daunting as it might have been.

“You can’t really get involved with the crowd. You’ve got to block it out but enjoy it too.

“It’s not very often you get a chance to play in front of these big crowds. It’s where you want to play your football and you try not to get too tense about it.

“These are the games why I came on loan here. They’re the games I want to play in and it’ll stand us all in good stead towards the end of the season.”
