Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos has hunger questioned by Steven Gerrard

Steven Gerrard has said his decision to leave Alfredo Morelos out of the Rangers squad today was an easy one and questioned the striker's hunger.

The Rangers boss said in the build-up to this afternoon's game that “I’m disappointed the player has had his head turned and doesn’t look himself", and the striker's absence today has now been explained by Gerrard.

Morelos scored twice in the 3-0 win over St Mirren earlier this month, but has struggled for goals in 2020 and repeatedly been linked with a move to Ligue 1 side Lille.

Radio Clyde reporter Alison Conroy this evening tweeted "Steven Gerrard says Alfredo Morelos 'made it easy' for him to leave him out of the Rangers team today."

She went on to quote him as saying: “You pick the players that look hungry, the players that work hard every single day, the players that look ready for the challenge coming up. That’s what I did today.”

Rangers won 2-0 against Kilmarnock at Ibrox this afternoon, thanks to goals in the second half from Kemar Roofe and Ryan Kent.
