Rangers star wanted by three SPFL clubs but Hamilton ruled out of transfer race

Rangers left-back James Maxwell is at the centre of a Championship transfer tug of war - but Hamilton are not one of the teams involved.

Reports and rumours have circulated that Accies head coach Stuart Taylor is one of several SPFL teams interested in the Ibrox youngster.

Lanarkshire Live Sport understands this is wide of the mark and that there is no interest from Hamilton in the left-back currently on loan at Ayr United at present.

The 20-year-old is available in January for a small fee, with his Rangers deal set to expire in June. He has played 19 times for the Honest Men this season.

Ayr United are desperate to keep him on a permanent basis while Partick Thistle - who have track record of signing Rangers youngsters in recent years - are also keen on Maxwell.

Dunfermline are the third Championship club said to be keen on the Rangers youngster while clubs down south are also monitoring Maxwell's situation.

The full-back will weigh up all of his options in January.

Accies return to action on Wednesday night against Championship leaders Arbroath. Taylor's men are sixth in the table.
