Rangers star tipped for Crystal Palace move as decision made amid fresh update on 2019/20 season

Crystal Palace and their 19 Premier League rivals have met again to discuss the possibility of Premier League football returning.

The latest meeting of Premier League clubs took place yesterday, with discussions held on 'Project Restart' and the way forward for the top flight and the 2019/20 season.

All professional football leagues in England are currently suspended indefinitely at the moment, with the coronavirus pandemic putting a halt to the season last month, with nine or ten games remaining for Palace and other teams in the Premier League.

But Premier League clubs remain committed to trying to complete the 2019/20 campaign, although no date has yet been confirmed for the return of top flight football.

Who's played the most Premier League minutes?

Despite the lack of action on the pitch, Palace are still in the news and we take a look below at the latest news, with your morning headlines for Saturday, May 2.

Alfredo Morelos tipped for Crystal Palace move

Former Rangers star Ronald de Boer believes that Crystal Palace would be a good fit for Alfredo Morelos.

The Colombian international has been strongly linked with a move to the Premier League ahead of the summer transfer window, with Palace and Newcastle among the clubs named as potential suitors for the 23-year-old.

But the twin brother of former Palace boss Frank de Boer has named Palace and Leicester City as two clubs Morelos would suit.

“He’s a predator. He has been a great signing for Rangers these last few years," de Boer told talkSPORT.

“I think Leicester City is a team he would do well for. They play decent football and are good with the counter attack.

“Leicester City would not be bad for him.

“Maybe Crystal Palace, although he won’t get so much time with the ball, but he can grind a goal out of nothing, and that is so important for, with respect, smaller clubs.”

Premier League deliver fresh update

During the shareholders' meeting yesterday, possible steps towards planning to resume the 2019/20 season, when it is safe and appropriate to do so, were discussed by the Premier League clubs.

Following the meeting, a statement was released by the Premier League, confirming that the priority was the health and safety of players, coaches, managers, club staff, supporters and the wider community, with the league reiterating that thoughts were with those directly affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The statement read: “The League and clubs are considering the first tentative moves forward and will only return to training and playing with Government guidance, under expert medical advice and after consultation with players and managers.

“The League welcomed the creation of the Government medical working group for a return of elite sport, which met for the first time this morning.

“No decisions were taken at the Shareholders’ meeting and clubs exchanged views on the information provided regarding "Project Restart".

“It was agreed that the PFA, LMA, players and managers are key to this process and will be further consulted.

“The clubs reconfirmed their commitment to finishing the 2019/20 season, maintaining integrity of the competition and welcomed the Government’s support.”

Decision made over academy games

It has been confirmed that all academy matches for the 2019/20 season have been cancelled.

The decision has been made that all Under-23, Under-18 and other competitions will not take place as the sole focus remains on completing first-team matches.

An EFL statement on Friday read: "The EFL has confirmed that the Academy Games Programme for the 2019/20 season has been terminated with immediate effect.

"The EFL administers the programme for Category 3 and 4 Clubs (U9 to U18) whilst the Premier League does so for Category 1 and 2 Clubs (U9 to U23) and the decision, which is independent of any discussions regarding the resumption of the 2019/20 campaign for first-team football, has been taken to give Academy staff and their players an element of clarity at this challenging time."
