Rangers star Ryan Kent charged by SFA for lashing out at Scott Brown

Ryan Kent has been hit with a violent conduct charge by the Scottish FA after lashing out at Celtic captain Scott Brown during Sunday’s Old Firm clash.

The winger, on loan from Liverpool , appeared to strike Brown, knocking him to the ground, as he went to retrieve the ball following James Forrest's late winner at Parkhead .

Match referee Bobby Madden missed the incident, and Kent escaped punishment during the game.

But following a review by the SFA, the 22-year old has been offered a two-game ban for his role in the incident - although the Gers could contest the ban, and if they do, a tribunal hearing will take place on Thursday.

Steven Gerrard's side had Alfredo Morelos and Andy Halliday sent off in the 2-1 defeat - and the actions of the Gers players left interim Celtic boss Neil Lennon angered afterwards.

"I'm not happy with the treatment of Scott Brown today," the former Hoops captain told BBC Scotland post-match.

"He's been elbowed [by Morelos] and then pushed or punched in the face by another player and really Rangers should have been down to nine men.

"Ryan Kent, after we scored the second goal, has either slapped or punched him in the face and it's just unacceptable at this level of football."

But Rangers manager Steven Gerrard believes Morelos and Kent were provoked by Brown, and that the midfielder deserved to be punished for his part in the trouble.

"You're playing against a player who loves to antagonise. Morelos and Kent are both provoked," the former Liverpool man said.

" Celtic fans have the right to celebrate but to do it right in your race, Halliday has the right to protect his own people.

"The guy who antagonised it all from the beginning deserves to be punished as well. When you're provoked, it's only fair that both sides get punished in my view."
