Rangers star opens up on Linfield loan move, as forgotten Ibrox man looks to kick on

Rangers star Jake Hastie hopes his January loan move to Linfield will kick-start his career, having found game-time hard to come by.

Hastie, who turns 23 tomorrow, joined the Belfast club on a deal until the end of this season, having been at Partick Thistle earlier this term.

The winger found it difficult to get game-time at Firhill, similar to last season when he returned to former club Motherwell on a loan deal.

It hasn't been an easy time for Hastie since leaving Motherwell for Rangers in 2019, and he also spent time on loan at Rotherham United.

But he hopes his Windsor Park move works out better for him.

He told the club's official website: "I see this loan move as a platform to hopefully kick-start me again.

"I hadn't really played in the first half of the season, but coming here and getting game time has meant I've started to enjoy myself again.

"I hope that there's a lot to come from me now that I'm building on my fitness and performances by the game.

"I want to get that first goal. I've had a couple of assists, but I am trying to get off the mark."

Hastie says it wasn't a difficult decision to head to Ireland, and says already knowing some people who are there helped enormously.

He said: "Once I spoke to the manager [David Healy] it was an easy decision to make.

"He sold it to me straight away and the demands and pressure to be successful here are what you want as a player.

"It's a chance to get back playing football again.

"The gaffer has been brilliant with me, and all the players and staff have been good to me too, so I am really enjoying myself here at Linfield.

"I had the benefit of already knowing Cammy Palmer, Chris McKee and Sam roscoe, which helped. It's brilliant here - a massive club.

"I knew before I came over here that Linfield is a huge club - Belfast is great, too."
