Rangers star Joe Aribo makes Nigeria debut as he's handed start against Ukraine

Joe Aribo has been handed a start by Nigeria against Ukraine to make his international debut.

The Rangers midfielder has impressed this season while playing in the centre midfield for Steven Gerrard's men and was instantly called up to Nigeria.

Aribo moved to Glasgow from Charlton and despite his move being criticised by Addicks boss Lee Bowyer among others, the 23-year-old has earned his call-up since joining.

Now Aribo has been handed a start alongside Stoke’s Peter Etebo with Everton’s £40m man Alex Iwobi playing in front of them.

It’s a strong team for the Eagles against Ukraine with former Celtic target Ola Aina also playing at right back.

The English-born midfielder has spoken of his pride of being called up when he said: “I am really happy to have got this call-up to Nigeria and I just want to make the most of it and play as long as possible and just do what I can for the team and make sure that we continue being the best that we can be."

Aribo joins Borna Barisic and Steven Davis in Rangers players playing for their national side this week while Ryan Jack was also in the Scotland squad before pulling out with injury.
