Rangers star hails 'incredible' emerging talent as player of the month is revealed

An Irvine schoolgirl wowed Rangers and Scotland star Nicola Docherty with her silky skills after winning a national player of the month award.

Charley Dickson, who plays for Rangers Girls, has spent the last five months honing her talent at home as part of free virtual training sessions backed by Youth Football Scotland and Scottish Building Society.

Every day, youngsters up and down the country earn points by logging on to their online resource Keep Scotland Active, recording their home training activities and posting their videos.

With the support from some of the game’s biggest names, the top ranked boy and girl scoop a Scottish Building Society Player of the Month award for their dedication and skill.

This month, Charley, 11, was crowned girls POTM with a virtual presentation from her Rangers and Scotland favourite Nicola Docherty.

Charley was thrilled to get a personal video message of congratulations from her hero.

Nicola said: “Charley has been logging with her videos every day. They really are incredible so an amazing big massive congratulations.”

Robbie Forsyth, Director of Youth Football Scotland, said: “Charley is an inspiration and it was so wonderful to see such a great role model as Nicola take time out to offer her congratulations.

“We are so proud of all the 3000 youngsters who took part in the programme during lockdown.”

Kerra McKinnie, Marketing Director of Scottish Building Society, sponsors of the SWPL said: “Congratulations to Charley on her well-deserved award.

“We are delighted to support a football initiative that kept boys and girls active during lockdown.

“We’d like to thank footballers like Nicola for helping encourage the youngsters.”
