Rangers star Connor Goldson posts inspiring picture two years on from major heart surgery

Connor Goldson has retold the inspiring story of his recovery from major heart surgery that almost ended his career.

The Rangers defender was at Brighton when a heart defect was picked up during a routine scan and he was forced to undergo surgery.

It stunted his career progress and he was forced to wait for his chance at Brighton but has showed his determination to go on and play Premier League football and then join Rangers.

In a post on Instagram he said: "Two years ago since my heart operation. After being told my career was in doubt I've since fulfilled a childhood dream of playing in the premier league and now played 46 games this season for a huge football club.

"Been a rollercoaster but put a lot of things into perspective personally."

Goldson has been a major success since joining Rangers in the summer and was a vital part of the side that reached the Europa League group stage.

The season has drifted away from Steven Gerrard's men in recent weeks but Goldson has come out of of the campaign with a lot of praise.

And he's been supported by team-mates after making the post on social media.

On loan Bournemouth forward Jermain Defoe said: "Amen bro"

Centre back partner Joe Worrall added: "Awesome Con"

Former Brighton team-mate Shane Duffy said: "Legend".
