Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos was involved in a dramatic chase on Tuesday night after discovering a suspicious man concealed underneath his car.
The Colombian striker arrived home with his pregnant wife Yesenia to find a man hiding beneath his motor.
Morelos spooked the individual and was forced to gave chase on foot down rain-soaked Glasgow streets.
A Rangers spokesman said: "We believe there was an incident but we can’t say any more as it’s now subject to a police investigation."
The Colombian striker has hit 28 goals already this season and is one of the most valuable players in Scottish football.
The hitman was top scorer in the Europa League and has become a regular in international squads.
Morelos is an injury doubt for his club's match against Ross County tonight after manager Steven Gerrard revealed that the star is suffering with a calf complaint.
It is not know if the injury was sustained during the traumatic incident.
He said: "Alfredo has not only been suspended, he's had a small calf problem as well.
'So I need to check with the medical staff what the right decision to do with Alfredo is because we obviously don't want to put him in any risk.
"It's good to have him back available in the squad, we've got a lot of games coming up so I'll make the right decision that's not a risk to the player."
Detective Inspector Kenny McDonald said: "Following reports of a man allegedly tampering with a car in a secured car park in Glasgow last night (Tuesday, 28 January, 2020), I can confirm that we have removed the vehicle for examination. At this time no criminality has been established."
