Rangers star Alfredo Morelos delivers 500 food packages to hungry Colombian families amid coronavirus

Rangers star Alfredo Morelos has been hand delivering food parcels to poverty-stricken Colombian families battling the coronavirus pandemic.

The Ibrox star returned to his hometown of Cereté after football was cancelled during the global lockdown.

The kind-hearted striker has now joined in with frontline relief efforts to help put food on the table of hungry families in the town he grew up in.

The 23-year-old was part of a team who answered calls from local youngsters prompting the delivery of 500 vital food supply packages.

Morelos, who joined Rangers in 2017, was filmed wearing a mask and gloves as he helped unload a truck packed full of goods.

The generous football star has already pledged £75,000 to Colombian families struggling during the pandemic.

He runs a charity - the Alfredo Morelos Foundation - which aims to help lift children out of poverty in his homeland.

Speaking earlier this month, the Rangers man told how he wanted to do everything he could to help his fellow Colombians.

He said: "I will never forget my people, my neighbours and friends who all need a helping hand in these difficult times.

It's an emergency situation for everyone and I want to do what I can to help.

"I wanted to donate food to help everyone cope with their difficulties. It's important for me to help the people here in Cerete who still have to work every day.

"For me, it's rewarding to help the neediest people, especially just now. We earned a living with what we received, but we make life with what we give."
