Rangers star Alfredo Morelos continues crisis aid effort as striker helps deliver food packages

Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos has continued to provide vital aid in his native Colombia.

The Premiership star returned to his homeland after the Scottish football shutdown and has used his charity foundation to help impoverished families.

In April, pictures emerged of Morelos delivering supplies in his hometown Cerete and he's again taken to the streets over the past few days.

Among them was Duvan Suarez - described as "Alfredo's spoiled child" - a youngster with microcephaly and perennial hypoxia.

Pictures show the Rangers favourite wearing protective gear as he meets families affected by the coronavirus crisis.

A statement on the Alfredo Morelos Foundation website revealed more than 500 food packages have been delivered to impoverished areas.

It read: "The Alfredo Morelos Foundation is no stranger to the situation that exists in the world due to the COVID-19 and for this reason it has helped the population of the cereals with food to cope with this crisis.

"More than 500 markets have been delivered in various sectors, sidewalks and townships delivered by Alfredo Morelos and the Foundation's volunteers, complying with biosafety regulations to prevent the spread of the virus.

"The disabled population has also benefited from aid, among them little Duván Suárez, who has microcephaly and perennial hypoxia and is Alfredo's spoiled child.

"In difficult times you can see the friendly hands but the Alfredo Morelos Foundation works every day to improve the quality of life of children, youth and families."

In March, Morelos' agent Michael Gorman revealed his client had pledged £75,000 to the aid effort in Colombia.

It took his contribution to the foundation in the past year to over £300,000.

He wrote on Twitter:  “Client Alfredo Morelos has pledged £75,000 to help underprivileged families in Colombia during the pandemic.

“Alfredo has donated more than £300,000 to his foundation and other charitable groups in the past year.”
