Rangers smash European record with top points tally for a Scottish club

It's fair to say this has been an incredible season for Rangers in Europe so far.

And they've now set a record for a European team with their win over Lech Poznan as they made it onto 14 points in the group stage.

It's now the most points a Scottish team has ever got in a European group stage, beating Celtic who got 13 points last season.

And they've become only the second team to go the entire pool stage without losing a game. The other team? Rangers in 1992/93 in the first ever Champions League when they finished a point behind Marseille and missed out on the final of the tournament.

It's an incredible achievement for the Ibrox men as they guaranteed themselves a seeded spot in Monday's Europa League last 32 draw.

Rangers beat Lech Poznan 2-0 thanks to goals from Cedric Itten and Ianis Hagi.

Swiss frontman Itten netted a stunning solo goal in the first half before Hagi made sure of the points when he nodded Connor Goldson's headed effort over the line.

Steven Gerrard had made seven changes to the Ibrox side as they travelled to Poland and will be delighted with how they overcame their opponents.
