Rangers slam way past Indians behind A.J. Griffin's gem

ARLINGTON, Texas _ Mitch Moreland hit a grand slam as part of a five-run first inning as the Rangers beat the Indians 7-0 Saturday night at Globe Life Park. The teams conclude their four-game series on Sunday.

A.J. Griffin held the Indians scoreless on five hits and a walk over six innings. He struck out six and left after 95 pitches, leading 7-0. Tony Barnette and Jake Diekman pitched scoreless innings in the seventh and eighth, and Matt Bush pitched a scoreless ninth to close it out.

Texas scored five times in the first, including Moreland's slam on the first pitch he saw from Indians' starter Carlos Carrasco. The rally started with one-out hits by Ian Desmond, Carlos Beltran and a fielder's choice by Adrian Beltre. Desmond scored when Rougned Odor reached on a fielding error at first base. Moreland homered to right field on the next pitch to make it 5-0.

Elvis Andrus' two-run double to the left-field corner gave the Rangers a 7-0 lead in the third.
