Rangers slam SFA disciplinary process after Kemar Roofe appeal fails

Rangers have slammed the SFA disciplinary process after Kemar Roofe’s appeal against a retrospective ban was kicked out by Hampden top brass on Wednesday.

The striker was hit with a ban for a mistimed lunge on St Johnstone’s Murray Davidson during last week’s 1-0 win for Steven Gerrard’s runaway league leaders.

Rangers opted to mount a legal challenge against the trial by TV decision which meant Roofe was free to take a seat on Gerrard’s bench for Sunday’s 1-1 draw at Hamilton.

But their arguments were dismissed at the disciplinary hearing which means the Englishman will be sidelined for this Saturday’s visit from Kilmarnock as well as an Ibrox showdown with Dundee United a week on Sunday.

But the Ibrox giants were seething by the outcome and said: “Rangers recently called for consistency in the Scottish FA’s disciplinary process.

“There seems to be real confusion within the game regarding which incidents are cited and those that are not. This confusion solidifies our viewpoint regarding the current system.”

Alfredo Morelos will also miss the Kilmarnock clash as the Colombian serves the last of a three game suspension dished out by the judicial review panel for his stamp on Hibs defender Ryan Porteous.

That decision prompted Gerrard to call for greater consistency from the SFA in the selection of which incidents are put up for review.

Celtic striker Albian Ajeti was then cited for diving at Rugby Park only for his fast-track ban to be overturned at a hearing on Tuesday.
Roofe had been hoping for a similar outcome but is now set for a stint on the sidelines as Gerrard attempts to close in on the club’s first top flight title in ten years.
