Rangers slam SFA as they give defiant response to Covid 5 appeal outcome

Rangers have slammed the SFA as their decision to ban the Covid 5 rule breakers was upheld.

The Ibrox club appealed against the six-game suspension dished out to Nathan Patterson, Bongani Zungu, Calvin Bassey, Dapo Mebude and Brian Kinnear after attending an illegal gathering in February.

The appeal date ensured Patterson was able to play a key role in the Scottish Cup win over Celtic at the weekend with Bassey and Zungu on the bench.

But the original sentence has been held following Tuesday's hearing.

And the Light Blues have criticised the governing body for their "inconsistency of decision making" following the outcome.

A statement read: "Rangers notes the outcome of today’s appeal.

"We remain disappointed in the result. Furthermore, we believe this outcome highlights the inconsistency of decision making in the Scottish FA’s disciplinary process.

"We are cognisant that the approach taken by other football associations across Europe has no resemblance to that of the Scottish FA. We urge the Scottish FA to be open minded to learn from other football authorities.

"We now focus on Sunday’s quarter final at Ibrox."
