Rangers should follow Partick Thistle and ban Neil Doncaster from Ibrox on trophy day - Hotline

They might have nothing left to play for this season but that didn’t stop the opposite sides of the Glasgow divide trading digs at each other.

Lubo Moravcik’s claim that Rangers aren’t very good went down like a lead balloon with Lewis Fotheringham, Mount Ellen, who said: “I had to laugh when Lubo Moravcik said Rangers are not a strong team. Either he is just saying what Celtic fans want to hear, or he has been drinking too much wine made from sour grapes!”

John Bruce emailed: “For Rangers fans it’s made entertaining reading, all the top European and Premiership managers who have been linked - and distanced themselves from - the Celtic manager’s job.

"Elite managers like new Roma boss Jose Mourinho, who was on £15 million per year before he was sacked by Spurs, 25% of Celtic’s crippling annual wage bill. Celtic have had more links than McKellar Watts, but are still no further forward.”

And Celtic fan Dominic Paul, Paisley, insists the board has to get a new man in right now. He said: “This Eddie Howe saga seems to roll on and on and on. Celtic need to get a new manager in place now, whether it be Howe or another.

"This continued delay smacks of more bad boardroom management. They need to give any new manager time to settle in and do pre-season business which is paramount. I fear further dithering will see the stable door being closed after the horse has bolted.”

Robert Robertson, Barnsley , might have had his tongue in his cheek while typing this email: “I think the idea of Callum McGregor moving on is a great idea. If he doesn’t fancy the EPL might I suggest the short trip across the city to Govan.

"After all, I heard he achieved a boyhood ambition when he scored the winning goal for Rangers against Celtic at Ibrox a short while ago. Steve Davis isn’t going to last forever and I believe he could be a “turnkey” solution for when Davo hangs up his boots . Plug-in, switch on and ready to go, as it were.”

But Gordon Ashley, Ayr, said: “The delusion of Rangers fans is hilarious, Celtic were the better team up until the red card and one tainted training match trophy while blowing two easy trophy chances is no great season.

"Dermot Desmond is going to blow them away with a top rated manager and top signings just like he did the last time they annoyed him.”

Martin Baird, Glasgow, said: “I find it difficult to understand comments like Leigh Treymaines in yesterday’s Hotline to keep Leigh Griffiths at Celtic.

“His last four league seasons Griffiths has produced a measly 9-2-9-6 goals. He is not a great goal scorer, if he was he would play.

The facts show he’s been unreliable and has consistently failed to produce.

“How long should Celtic carry his poor fitness, his inability to play 90mins, his personal issues and troubles, but most importantly his lack of goals?

His childish behaviour has endeared him to the fans but overall he’s failed to do what he’s paid for and it surely must be time to go.”

Gillian Carruth, Beith, thinks Partick Thistle’s decision to ban the SPFL from Firhill for their League One trophy presentation should be replicated at Ibrox.

"She said: “I would like to take a leaf out of Partick Thistle’s book and have John Greig present Rangers with the Premiership trophy next week. We don’t want Neil Doncaster or his cronies anywhere near Ibrox. That would be a celebration in itself.”

Lewis Doyle, from Tipperary , emailed: “Why have a pyramid system for Scottish football when teams like St Mirren, Hamilton, Ross County and Livingston don’t meet Uefa mandatory rules to be able to play in Europe? The Scottish league is a joke. The quicker Rangers and Celtic get to England the better. They are being held back by the rest.”

A few calls came in about the Manchester City-PSG match, with Dave Rooke, saying: “I hope Kris Ajer was watching the Man City v PSG game and paid attention to Ruben Dias showing how to defend and in particular how to block a goal bound shot.”

Scott Gowers, Edinburgh, emailed: “I have to congratulate Manchester City on their performance against PSG to reach a cup final which doesn’t exist. Three of the four semi finalists resigned from the organisation who run the cup yet still got or are going to play as they changed their minds as a result of fan power.

“The Chumpions league will always be a Chumpions league until only champions can play in it, fan power from the smaller nations can get some parity back to this financial race based farce of a competition.”

Alan Lough, Dunbar, said: “Man City go through to their first ever CL final and it is thoroughly deserved. PSG never stood a chance against a superbly organised team who were dominant from start to finish. Kevin de Bruyne is the driving force of this great team and how he hasn’t made the Ballon D’or shortlist or won the award is a joke.”

Finally, Killie fan Jim McClean, from Rothesay, said: “Looks like my 40 years as a season ticket holder is coming to an end, and I blame the Killie board for appointing Angelo Alessio and then Alex Dyer.

We have 17 players out of contract and if we go down we will be down for a few years as we haven’t got the players to come back up next season. As I live in Rothesay I will pick and choose my games. It’s a sad state of affairs.”
