Rangers share Joe Aribo update as they confirm 'minor illness' for Ibrox star

Rangers have moved to allay fears over Joe Aribo as they confirmed he'll be monitored over the weekend for his illness.

Steven Gerrard revealed he had a stomach bug on Thursday night and that was why he missed the 2-2 draw with Benfica.

That was to quickly end any speculation that he might be suffering from Covid-19 and now Rangers have shared a further update on the Nigeria internationals health.

A tweet from the club said: "Rangers can confirm that Joe Aribo is currently being treated for a minor illness and is being monitored accordingly over the weekend. We expect Joe to rejoin the first-team squad early next week."

On Thursday, Gerrard had said: "Joe was unwell. He had a stomach complaint last night. Hopefully he will be available for the weekend.

"It’s important to say it is not Covid-related. He was negative on his test, before people start putting two and two together”

The former Charlton midfielder missed almost two months earlier in the season after picking up a muscle injury in the Premiership win over St Johnstone.

He has four goals so far this campaign, including a double in the 8-0 thrashing of Hamilton.
