Rangers set for Progres re-match as Europa League foes take first-leg advantage over Cork City

Rangers are set for a Europa League re-match with old foes Progres Niederkorn.

The Luxembourg outfit defeated Cork City 2-0 in their first qualifying round first leg to take full control of the tie.

First-half goals from Belmin Muratovic and Mayron de Almeida leave the Irish Premier League side with a mountain to climb in the return clash.

Should Progres see it out on home soil next week, they will almost certainly book a trip back to Ibrox.

Steven Gerrard's side have one foot in the next stage after a thumping 4-0 win over St Joseph's on Tuesday.

Progres infamously dumped Pedro Caixinha's Rangers out at the first hurdle in 2017 as the Ibrox club surrendered a 1-0 first leg advantage.

It all went horribly wrong a week later as the minnows grabbed only their second and third-ever goals in Europe to humiliate the Glasgow giants.

Gerrard's side, however, suffered no such embarrassment in Gibraltar earlier this week.

He handed debuts to four new signings and on-loan Liverpool winger Sheyi Ojo stole the show in a comfortable win at the Victoria Stadium.

He netted a classy second after Ryan Jack's cushioned volley broke the deadlock following a goalless first-half.

Strikes from Borna Barisic and Alfredo Morelos followed to all-but kill the tie before the upcoming return in Glasgow.
