Rangers sent Europa League warning as Braga smash transfer record on £9m striker

Big-spending Braga are set to smash their transfer record ahead of their showdown with Rangers by splashing out £9 million on Barcelona striker Abel Ruiz.

Steven Gerrard's side face the Portuguese League Cup winners next month in a Last 32 Europa League clash, with new Braga boss Ruben Amorim having transformed the club's fortunes after five wins out of five, which included that trophy.

And they are set to get tooled up for the clash with the Ibrox side by pouncing for Ruiz, who plays for Barcelona's B side in the third tier of Spanish football.

Ruiz, who turned 20 this week, made the breakthrough last season with Barcelona's first team and even scored in a penalty shootout in the Catalonian Super Cup win against Espanyol, before also debuting in La Liga.

But he's dropped back down to their B side and has been allowed to move to Portugal after Braga on loan initially, with the transfer fee to be paid in the summer. Barcelona have insisted on a buy-back clause valid for three years too.

Braga's previous record signing was the £4 million capture of Brazilian midfielder Danilo six years ago from Vasco da Gama.
However, Braga are set to eventually more than double their highest ever outlay to land the Barca kid, who will be eligible to play against Rangers.
