Rangers sent Euro warning as Braga's rookie boss makes coaching claim

Rookie Braga boss Ruben Amorim has insisted his lack of coaching badges will not hurt him as he prepares to take on Rangers in the Europa League.

Steven Gerrard's side face the Portuguese club in February in the Europa League in the last 32 of the competition.

The Portuguese side acted last week to axe Ricardo Sá Pinto and replace him with their B team coach, Ruben Amorim.

But that caused a furore in Portugal because he hasn't reached his Level Four stage in his Portuguese FA coaching badges and their National Coaching Association criticised the appointment.

However, Amorim insisted it won't hinder him doing his job.

He said: "I understand the criticism, but throughout my career I have played for and coached alongside some fabulous coaches. Those were my teachers.

"Yes, I don't have these qualifications, but I have plenty of experience. I have taken a little out of all the top managers I have worked for like Paulo Bento, Jose Peseiro, Carlos Queiroz and Jorge Jesus."

And Braga president Antonio Salvador has defended his appointment.

He pointed out: "No club in Portugal has done more to appoint and promote Portuguese coaches.

"There are a shortage of Portuguese coaches in Portugal because of this Level Four badge. They are having to go abroad.

"It takes eight years to get it. How is that feasible?

"To comply with the regulations, we will have two coaches on the bench who have the Level Four qualifications."
