Rangers send SPFL reminder as James Tavernier and Ryan Kent are left off league's top scorer list

It's fair to say the SPFL and Rangers haven't seen eye-to-eye this year so far.

The battle for an independent inquiry back in the early months of the coronavirus pandemic really heightened tensions that have been in place for a long time.

And the latest debate centres around the SPFL's list of top goalscorers in the Premiership after the weekend's fixtures.

They listed Albian Ajeti as the top scorer on five, with Odsonne Edouard, Kevin Nisbet and Lewis Ferguson also included in the picture with the latter three all on four goals.

But Rangers didn't appreciate the fact that two of their players were left off of the list in the shape of Ryan Kent and James Tavernier.

Both players have netted four times in the league this season but weren't included in the graphic posted by the league's governing body on social media.

And Rangers quoted the SPFL's tweet and left a picture of Kent and Tavernier celebrating.

Being left off the list can be explained by the metrics in which a tie is decided in the race for the golden boot.

If two players are on the same amount of goals, the player who scores in the less amount of game time will be be ranked higher in the table.

Tavernier and Kent have both played nine league games this season while Edouard, Nisbet and Ferguson have all missed game time because of injuries and COVID-19 postponements.
