Rangers sell staggering 32,000 season tickets as Ibrox club hope for August fan return

Rangers fans have backed Steven Gerrard’s bid to stop Ten in a Row by snapping up 32,000 season tickets already.

And club chiefs hope to get at least a section of their home support back inside Ibrox stadium by the end of August.

Mailsport understands that, despite the Covid-19 pandemic, the club have sold more briefs than at this stage last year – 10 days before the June 30 deadline.

That will be a massive lift to boss Gerrard and his players as he attempts to put a squad together capable of challenging Celtic for the Premiership title.

And the season ticket stampede will boost the club coffers at a difficult time financially due to the coronavirus outbreak. Rangers also launched a new membership scheme, MyGers, with 16,000 punters already signed up – more than any other club in the country.

The Ibrox board are delighted with the supporters’ backing, especially with Premiership games likely to be played behind closed doors when the new campaign kicks off.

And they’re hopeful of getting at least some supporters back inside the ground as soon as August.

A club spokesman said last night: “This is a phenomenal response from our support whose loyalty continues to surpass their own high standards.

“Rest assured, Rangers are working hard to facilitate fans back into Ibrox as quickly and as safely as possible.

“The club understands that a gradual increase of supporters within the stadium may begin in late August, subject to the appropriate government guidance.”

Rangers will promise fans who can’t get to Ibrox due to Covid-19 restrictions an enhanced club TV service for season 2020/21.

Mailsport understands club legends and high-profile pundits are being lined up to be part of the Rangers TV fans package, with all season-ticket holders having access to live home games.

Meanwhile, despite reports in France linking Rangers with a move for Algerian midfielder Haris Belkebla, Mailsport understands the club have no interest in the Brest player.
