Rangers see off European giants as Steven Gerrard's side top global power rankings amid unbeaten run

In-form Rangers have topped ESPN's global power rankings to be named as the best side in the world so far this season.

Steven Gerrard's side have cruised 21 points clear at the top of the Scottish Premiership and are yet to lose in their 24 league games this term.

The impressive run has now been recognised by the American TV giants as they rise to the top to the weekly rankings.

The week before German heavyweights Bayern Munich were top of the charts.

Former Newcastle, West Ham and Portsmouth goalkeeper Shaka Hislop who compiles the list put the Ibrox side ahead of Manchester City, who were in second, and their neighbours United in third.

They also saw off Juventus and AC Milan who were place in sixth and seventh spot.

Hislop told ESPN on the decision: “I had Glasgow Rangers in at two last week, thinking ‘Well, Bayern will give me a couple of weeks to figure out what I’m going to do with Glasgow Rangers long term’.

“Then Bayern lose two on the spin. I’m having to put Glasgow Rangers in at number one, and I’m not sure how they got there.

“Well, I do, but it’s Scottish football you know, so help me out.

“Here’s my issue. Glasgow Rangers have lost once since August.”
