Rangers secure 17,000 fans for Premiership opener and expect 'full house' at Champions League showdown

Rangers will welcome 17,000 fans to Ibrox for the Premiership opener with Livingston - and expect a "full house" when their Champions League qualifying campaign gets under way.

The Ibrox side have held further discussions with the Scottish Government after expressing frustration that only 2000 supporters were permitted to attend the weekend draw with Arsenal.

Attendance has been boosted to 8,500 for the visit of Brighton this weekend and 12,750 for a glamour tie with Real Madrid the following day.

And when the competitive action starts - against Livi in the league on July 31 and Malmo or HJK in Europe on August 10 - numbers look set to keep increasing.

A Rangers statement said: "Following further discussions with the Scottish Government and local authorities, Rangers have been granted permission to host 8,500 supporters at Saturday’s match with Brighton & Hove Albion, and 12,750 at Sunday’s Real Madrid fixture.

"The stadium capacity for the upcoming Scottish Premiership opener with Livingston has also been set, with 17,000 fans permitted to attend on July 31.

"Season ticket holders enrolled in the home friendly scheme and MyGers members will again be given priority to this weekend’s friendlies.

"For the Livingston Premiership opener, a straight ballot among Season Ticket holders will take place for the 17,000 available tickets, with those unsuccessful provided free access through the RangersTV virtual match pass.

"Those who are successful in the ballots will receive an email outlining arrangements for the match(es) they receive tickets for.

"Brighton prices are £18 for adults, £12 for concessions and £7 for kids, while Real Madrid prices are £25 for adults, £18 for concessions and £10 for kids.

"All matches will also be shown live on RangersTV. We look forward to welcoming Clive Tyldesley back to the commentary box for this weekend's games.

"The Brighton and Real Madrid games are available through RangersTV ‘pay per view’ match pass.

"Under current Scottish Government roadmap plans, it is our expectation that we will have a full house at Ibrox for our UEFA Champions League qualifier with Malmö FF or HJK Helsinki on August 10."

The Scottish Government roadmap proposes lifting all social distancing rules on August 9, which could pave the way for full capacity stadia.
