Rangers rout of Hamilton has Accies fans furious at Ibrox implosion

Furious Hamilton Accies fans have slammed their side on social media after watching Rangers run riot in an 8-0 rout this afternoon.

Brian Rice's men were 3-0 down inside 19 minutes after goals from Scott Arfield, Kemar Roofe and Jo Arbio had the Scottish Premiership leaders on easy street.

Aribo grabbed his second after 36 minutes and Roofe bagged his brace nine minutes into the second half.

Things only got worse as Brandon Barker made it 6-0 in just over an hour into the match.

Seconds later James Tavernier netted a penalty and then his second of the day in 69 minutes to complete the rout.

It came up two goals short of Rangers' record league win - a 10–0 victory against Hibs over a century ago in 1898.

But it was rock bottom Hamilton's heaviest-ever defeat in the SPFL's top flight, which will be especially harmful to their goal difference in the battle to beat the drop this season.

Hamilton, who were playing their first game in 19 days, had been beset by injuries and Covid-related issues leading up to the clash with David Templeton, Kyle Munro, Charlie Trafford and Jamie Hamilton all ruled out long term.

Rangers have also been in scintillating form in the league and in Europe of late.

However, the Accies faithful were unforgiving in their assessment of the Ibrox implosion.

@redandwhite1874 tweeted: "Abysmal, atrocious, inevitable, amateurish, naive, unacceptable, embarrassing."

@Stevieinnes2008 said: "All players and management should be ashamed of themselves, embarrassments the lot of them."

@Berekis raged: "I've seen us take some beatings in my many years as an Accies fan, but never have I seen such a gutless, spineless mob as this, and I include the management and directors."

George Gardner (@Oldtimeaccie) said: "This is so f****** embarrassing. There is no way this guy [Rice] can continue as manager. Just look at what is happening on the park."

It was a hard watch for Hamilton boss Brian Rice (SNS Group)

Fans' page We Are Hamilton (@Acciesfans) fumed: "We haven't even been winning a total of 10 minutes this season. I have never seen a group of players or manager who seem so disinterested to play for our club."

After Tavernier's penalty, Ben McNicol (@benhafc18) fumed: "7 f****** nil. Excuse my language but absolutely livid."

Mark Cairns (@MarkCairns97) posted: "I was expecting this and I'm still disappointed."

@ShaneHAFC quipped: "Forfeit so it's only a 3-0 loss."

Rob Hunter (@humphiemcglumph) posted: "The really sad thing is that is not a surprise anymore - this is the sort of result I now expect in every league game. Until the board change and take on board what the fans say then I expect us to be relegated fairly soon."

David McDougall (@DavidMc31104587) simply said: "Painful, very painful."

The heavy defeat comes a month after Hamilton fans hit out at the club's "embarrassing" 3-1 defeat away to Annan in the Betfred Cup.

Up next for Accies is a trip to Stranraer in that competition on Wednesday night, which is followed by a Lanarkshire derby at home to Albion Rovers on Saturday, also in the Betfred Cup.
