Rangers revel in European record as Europa League success sees them soar away from Celtic and AC Milan

Rangers fans are revelling in their recent European exploits as it emerges they're ranked ahead of AC Milan in the club coefficient.

After years in the European football wilderness, the Ibrox club have re-established themselves on the continental stage in recent seasons.

They've made it to the last 16 of the Europa League in each of the last two seasons and have already secured a place in the knockout rounds for this term.

Gio van Bronckhorst's side will face one of the third-placed Champions League teams in a play-off to make it back to the last 16.

That's seen their club coefficient shoot up in recent seasons, with Rangers starting this campaign in 52nd place.

And over the course of this campaign they've leapfrogged city rivals Celtic, currently in 48th place, much to the delight of their fans.

With both teams still in Europe that could change over the course of the campaign but for now it's Rangers who have the bragging rights.

In addition the Premiership champions are ahead of one of the most legendary European teams of all time in the shape of Milan.

The Serie A giants have won the European Cup/Champions League no fewer than seven times, as well as the Cup Winners' Cup twice and the Super Cup five times.

They've had some lean years of their own though and crashed out of Europe altogether when defeat to Liverpool in the San Siro left them bottom of their Champions League group and the Rossoneri are currently in 43rd place, three behind Rangers.

And the gap is set to widen next year as the Pedro Caixinha campaign that ended in the infamous defeat to Progres Niederkorn will be wiped off the Ibrox five-year average while Milan lose the 12 points they got for reaching the Europa League last 16 in the 2017-18 season.
