Rangers reserves pip Celtic on goal difference to seal title on dramatic final day

Andy Dallas struck a double to help Rangers win the reserve league title on a thrilling final day.

Graeme Murty's side lifted the trophy after coming back from a goal down to win 3-1 against Falkirk and clinch the title on goal difference while Celtic defeated St Johnstone 3-2.

It was a day of drama, dubbed Helicopter Monday, that could have seen any of Rangers, Celtic or Hibs win the league. The Ibrox side were favourites as all they had to do was win and hope Celtic didn't better their result by four goals.

Defeat for both sides of the Glasgow divide would have handed the trophy to Hibs.

Falkirk took the lead against Rangers through Nikolay Todorov but Rangers equalised seven minutes later.

Rhys Breen headed past Robbie Mutch in the Falkirk goal and the Ibrox side were in front before half time.

This time it was Dallas, who has spent the second half of the season on loan at Morton, who scored. Breen turned provided as he nodded a cross back across goal and Dallas was left with a simple finish.

Graham Dorrans, who was making his return from injury, almost added a third when he cracked the cross bar from 30 yards. Rangers did add a third late on when Dallas added his second from the spot following a foul on Josh McPake.

They then had a nervy wait for Celtic's game to finish at Lennoxtown. The Hoops were taking on St Johnstone and had gone behind to a first half goal from David Wotherspoon.

They then took the lead through a quickfire double from Mikey Johnston and Ewan Henderson. It didn't last long as Jamie McKenzie equalised again and it looked like Rangers would be champions thanks to a points difference.

But Grant Savoury made it 3-2 to Celtic and it meant the Ibrox side ended up winning the league by four goals.

A large Rangers travelling support then celebrated with the young guns, many of whom also played in the Youth Cup Final win over Celtic.
