Rangers reportedly set to swoop for John Souttar and Danilho Doekhi as Giovanni van Bronckhorst accelerates window shopping

Rangers are reportedly set to swoop for defensive duo John Souttar and Danilho Doekhi.

The Scottish Sun say the Gers are "pushing hard" to get pre-contract agreements over the line for the centre-backs.

Both players are out of contract in the summer and free to speak to other clubs this month about a move.

Hearts man Souttar and Vitesse Arnhem captain Doekhi have been on the Light Blues' transfer radar for a while now.

The interest in Eredivisie star Doekhi only heightened following Dutchman Giovanni van Bronckhorst's appointment as Ibrox boss.

The 23-year-old is understood to be keen on a move to Govan, but has other options on the table such as Serie A side Napoli.

Souttar, too, has things to weigh up, with English Championship sides such as Blackburn Rovers and Sheffield United said to be interested in securing the 25-year-old Scotland international's services.

Rangers are very keen on both, though, given Connor Goldson's contract at Ibrox is up in the summer and Jack Simpson appears to be on his way out, too.

Reinforcements are needed to compete with Leon Balogun and Filip Helander, when he returns from injury, as Nikola Katic remains a peripheral figure.

Young left-back Calvin Bassey has done a fine job filling in amid a defensive injury crisis, but Rangers know they need more natural options as they pursue the double swoop.
