Rangers remain interested in Josh Hamilton after medical review

The Texas Rangers remain interested in free agent Josh Hamilton after the club's medical staff evaluated him this week.

General manager Jon Daniels on Friday acknowledged the visit with Hamilton in Houston, where he is rehabilitating from reconstructive surgery on the anterior cruciate ligament in the left knee. It was the third surgery on the knee in a span of 10 months.

The results apparently did not discourage the Rangers. Daniels said it remains "possible" that the Rangers would re-sign Hamilton on a minor league deal.

Hamilton, 35, appeared in only one game last season, getting two at-bats with Double-A Frisco on injury-rehabilitation assignment. He had only 170 at-bats with the Rangers in 2015.

Hamilton will earn $26.41 million from the Los Angeles Angels next season in the final year of a contract.
