ARLINGTON, Texas _ Former Brewers Carlos Gomez and Jonathan Lucroy combined for five RBIs to help the Rangers beat Milwaukee, 6-4, Tuesday night at Globe Life Park. The Rangers (93-65) moved a half game ahead of the Red Sox (92-65), who lost Tuesday, for the best record in the American League. The Indians (91-66) also lost to drop 1 { games back of the Rangers.
Rangers starter A.J. Griffin allowed four runs on seven hits and two walks over 4 1/3 innings. Griffin struck out four. The Brewers scored two in the first on a two-run homer by Chris Carter and made it 3-0 on Manny Pina's solo homer in the second.
Alex Claudio replaced Griffin with one out in the fifth with two on. He surrendered a run-scoring single to Carter that gave Milwaukee a 4-3 lead.
Tony Barnette allowed two hits but struck out two in a scoreless sixth. Keone Kela struck out the side in the seventh and Matt Bush pitched a perfect eighth and Sam Dyson earned his 37th save with a scoreless ninth.
Gomez's three-run homer in the third tied the game at 3. It was set up after walks by Jurickson Profar and Elvis Andrus started the inning against Jimmy Nelson. Gomez's homer was the first hit by the Rangers.
Lucroy's two-run double in the sixth gave the Rangers a 5-4 lead. Texas added a run in the seventh to increase its lead to 6-4. Ian Desmond singled, moved to third on Carlos Beltran's double and scored on Adrian Beltre's groundout.
Gomez has 21 RBIs in 30 games for the Rangers after having 29 in 85 games earlier this season with the Astros.
