Rangers ‘register’ Josh Laurent transfer interest but face competition from Brighton over midfielder

Rangers have 'registered an interest' in signing Reading midfielder Josh Laurent, according to a report.

The 26-year-old has a year left on his deal at the Championship outfit after he joined from Shrewsbury last summer.

But he impressed in the second tier of English football and is a key player for Reading and they face a battle to hold on to him with Rangers and Brighton interested in him.

The Sun report that Reading will want an £8million fee for him, which may put the Ibrox side off if they were to make a move in the summer.

The 26-year-old started his career at QPR before joining Brentford and then having spells at Hartlepool, Wigan and Bury before finally making his name at Shrewsbury.

He joined Reading on a free transfer in the summer of 2020 and played 45 of their 46 league games, and was named the club’s player of the year.

Rangers are likely to try and strengthen their midfield this summer with injury issues leaving them short at times this season.

Veteran Steven Davis played 59 times in all competitions this season with injuries to Ryan Jack and Scott Arfield meaning he was relied on more than normal.
