Rangers-Red Sox postponed due to approach of Henri

BOSTON — Battered by the Rangers on Saturday night, the Boston Red Sox wisely decided not to tangle with the approach of tropical storm on Henri on Sunday.

Less than 12 hours after the Rangers’ second-largest win of the year, the Red Sox announced the postponement of Sunday’s series finale. The teams will try to play on Monday at 12:10 p.m. CT, anticipating the fast-moving storm will move through Boston by then. If Monday’s game does not come off, however, the only other mutual off day for the teams is Monday, September 27, just after the Rangers have finished their last road trip of the year with a game at Baltimore.

The Rangers will simply push back lefty Kolby Allard, Sunday’s scheduled starter, to pitch Monday. Boston is expected to do the same with starter Nathan Eovaldi.

It is only the second postponement of the year for the Rangers. They had a game with Toronto, in Buffalo, postponed by rain and made it up the next day as part of a doubleheader.

After a 10-1 win Saturday, the Rangers have a chance to win the series at Boston with a victory in the makeup game. It would be the first road series win for the Rangers since they won three of four at Minnesota May 3-6.
