Rangers and other European clubs have been assured the Africa Cup of Nations will be safe for their stars – despite fears over Covid measures.
The Ibrox side expect Joe Aribo, Calvin Bassey and Leon Balogun to be called up by Nigeria for AFCON, which runs from January 9 to February 6.
They have already been reassured they do not have to release players before their final game before the winter break – against Celtic on January 2.
But on Wednesday it emerged that a number of top European clubs, including Rangers, were considering blocking their players from travelling.
The European Club Association – of which the Glasgow giants are a member – has said it is not satisfied organisers would implement strict protocols to prevent the spread of Covid and stated players would not be released until after their clubs' final matches before the tournament begins.
However the Confederation of African Football have insisted clubs have nothing to worry about.
Their general secretary, Veron Mosengo-Omba, said: "The confederation is doing everything possible to ensure participants’ safety.
"I had meetings with Cameroon's sports and public health ministers and that was important in getting a level of understanding on the state of readiness in the country.
"There is a lot of work that is being done. We have to continue with the same momentum. We cannot rest. We have to work around the clock.
"Everyone must join the efforts. We want to see a great African Cup of Nations here in Cameroon and we will."
