Rangers put on Zinedine Ferhat transfer red alert as Algerian winger 'unconvinced' by Strasbourg move

Scottish champions Rangers may have been handed a lifeline in their pursuit of Nimes Olympique winger Zinedine Ferhat, as reports in France claim he is holding out on Strasbourg.

The 28-year-old looks set to leave Nimes after their relegation to Ligue 2 last season.

He was in inspirational form last term, scoring six goals and providing ten assists but it wasn't enough to keep his side in France's top flight.

And all summer it has been heavily reported that he will move on to pastures new.

He played just five minutes as a substitute in Nimes' win over Dijon and that came after he was left out altogether in their opener against Bastia.

That came amid strong links to Strasbourg, as some French outlets were reporting they were closing in on a move.

Now, however, Alsa Sports claim that Ferhat, who was linked with Rangers last month, has got cold feet on the switch.

It's said he is holding out for a more "upscale" move - which could include Steven Gerrard's team, especially if they can qualify for the Champions League.

A move to Strasbourg is "still possible" but Ferhat is believed to be unconvinced by the offer and by the prospect of playing for a Ligue 1 relegation contender this season.

The likes of Lyon and Lille have been linked and these clubs certainly fit the bill of what Ferhat may be looking for.

But if Rangers are in fact interested, they will be encouraged by the fact he is still assessing his options and could convince him to head to the Scottish Premiership instead.
