Rangers 'Premiership invincibles' banana skins as champions sit four games from immortality

Rangers stand just four games from an unblemished league season after seeing off Hibs on Sunday.

Steven Gerrard's side are looking to become only the second to go an entire Premiership season unbeaten, matching the achievement of Brendan Rodgers and Celtic in 2016-2017.

There are some tough fixtures on the horizon though, and with the Scottish Cup the main focus there are banana skins in the road.

With away games and a home tie with Celtic it won't be easy for Gerrard and his team.

Here are the four games Rangers must come through unscathed to end the campaign unbeaten.

St Johnstone (A)

It's a trip to Perth first up, as Gerrard's side take on the League Cup winners.

Callum Davidson's side have very little to play for, though they could still catch Livingston in fifth.

St Johnstone haven't beaten Rangers at home since a shock 4-1 win back in March 2010.

They did secure three points at Ibrox in December 2017 but have lost the last three meetings by an aggregate score of 7-0.

Celtic (H)

The final Old Firm game of the season will see Celtic with plenty of motivation despite the title having been lost already.

The Parkhead club will be desperate to stop Rangers matching the unbeaten season they enjoyed under Brendan Rodgers and will have that in their own hands provided St Johnstone don't win the week before.

It's been close to 18 months since Celtic won a game against their most bitter rivals but they've arguably had the better of two out of three meetings so far this term.

If Rangers can come through this unbeaten they'll be supremely confident.

Livingston (A)

Livingston have been one of the surprises of the season but with a small squad there are signs it's catching up with them.

David Martindale's side were battered 6-0 by Celtic on Saturday and have just one win since February 2.

That came against bottom of the table Hamilton and Livi will probably be focused on holding on to fifth before regrouping for next season.

They are one of the few teams to hold Rangers this season though, and games between the pair tend to be close.

Since a 3-1 win for the Ibrox club in September 2019 they're unbeaten but the scorelines were 1-0, 2-0, 1-0, 0-0, 2-0, 1-0.

Aberdeen (H)

(SNS Group)

If Rangers are still unbeaten after those three games the final hurdle will be Aberdeen at home.

That will be the day James Tavernier lifts the trophy and while Ibrox will almost certainly be empty there will be a party mood nonetheless.

Whether Stephen Glass' team can spoil the atmosphere may well come down to whether they're still going for third.

A clash with Rangers is always big, but with Aberdeen currently four points behind Hibs they may well have extra motivation.

Gerrard's side have won all three meetings so far this season but they have struggled against the Dons in the past.

In their last 10 meetings across all competitions they have six wins, three draws and one defeat.
