Rangers' potential Europa League opponents confirmed as Willem II thrash Progres to set up third round clash

Rangers will face Dutch side Willem II if they progress to the third qualifying round of the Europa League.

Steven Gerrard 's side face Lincoln Red Imps in Gibraltar on Thursday, as they begin their 2020-21 European campaign.

The draw had thrown up the possibility of a reunion with Progres Niederkorn, who inflicted Rangers ' most humbling European defeat in 2017.

Instead though it will be a trip to the Netherlands for the Premiership leaders, after Willem II secured a 5-0 win in Luxembourg.

The visitors started on the front foot, winning a corner inside two minutes.

Greek striker Vasilis Pavlidis got on the end of the set piece but his effort was saved by Sebastien Flauss in the Progres goal.

The 21-year-old wasn't to be denied though, and he put Willem ahead after 20 minutes.

The tie was effectively over eight minutes later when Gorken Saglam doubled the advantage.

Pavlidis got his second of the evening before the break, before right winger Che Nunnely made it a rout on 46 minutes.

Belgian Under-21 international Mike Trésor Ndayishimiye ensured it would be a real statement performance as he added the fifth with 25 minutes to play.

The Dutch side will now welcome Rangers to the Netherlands on September 24 for a one-off tie.

Should they negotiate that, Gerrard's men will then face a one-off play-off match, with the draw for that to be made on Thursday.
