Rangers players rated as Ryan Kent's struggles continue during early season form drop

It was back to European action at Ibrox and Rangers scraped past Alashkert in the first leg of their Europa League playoff.

But there were a few worrying performances in this one and Steven Gerrard will be frustrated with some of his players.

John Lundstram was shown a red card in the first half and Ryan Kent struggled to put in the performance everyone knows he is capable of.

But there were better showings from Calvin Bassey and Scott Wright during the game and will be looking to keep their places on Sunday.

Here's how the players rated.

Allan McGregor

Had very little to do throughout the game and was out to punch the couple of balls that did come over the top. 6

James Tavernier

Worked hard up and down the wing and put a couple of decent balls into the box that never quite managed to find the back of the net. Better than he has been. 7

Connor Goldson

It was a night where Alashkert were happy to sit back for most of it, even when Rangers were down to 10 men but when they did attack he was always in the right place. 7

Filip Helander

The Swede was back in the starting lineup and his usual self. Always deals with most things that come his way. 7

Calvin Bassey

Was given his chance on the big stage after an impressive performance against Dunfermline last weekend. He got up and down the line well and put a couple of decent balls in but never quite managed to create much. 7

Steven Davis

Had a moment in the second half where it looked like he was getting caught out but overall he put in a decent performance. Needs to offer a bit more in terms of creating chances just now though. 7

John Lundstram

His Rangers career has had a slow start and it got even worse at Ibrox when he was sent off. A poor first half ended with his red card. 1

Joe Aribo

Was impressive in the first half before fading out when he took on a deeper role following Lundstram's red card. Worked hard and defended well. 6

Ianis Hagi

He's been one of Rangers best players so far this season and it was another good performance from him. Worked hard throughout and was always looking to create a chance. 7

Alfredo Morelos

Off the ball he didn't have his best performance but he got the goal that mattered and took the acclaim of the crowd when replaced on 83 minutes. 7

Ryan Kent

He's had a difficult start to the season and missed a sitter in the first half before being hooked at half time. 3

Subs

Scott Wright

Came on and instantly got Rangers fired up with some exciting runs forward. Really looks like he's stepping it up a level. 7

Scott Arfield

On for the final 11 minutes when Rangers were a goal up and down to 10 men. 4

Cedric Itten

On to try and see out the game. 3

Stephen Kelly

Got 30 seconds at the end. N/A
