Rangers players head to Prague as they look to banish 40 year hoodoo in Czech capital

Rangers were depleted the last time they headed for the airport after the squad was ravaged by Covid for the trip to Armenia to face Alashkert.

But Steven Gerrard led his troops to the Glasgow Airport departures for their first Europa League group game on the road.

The Light Blues are heading to the Czech capital where they take on Sparta Prague as they look to bounce back from the opening Group A defeat to Lyon.

Rangers are no strangers to Prague having travelled out for the last-32 clash against Slavia Prague last season.

They managed a 1-1 draw on that occasion but lost the return leg in a bad-tempered match at Ibrox.

Glen Kamara was racially abused that night and the Finnish international midfielder was pictured as the Gers squad arrived to catch their flight.

Skipper James Tavernier, Alfredo Morelos, Steven Davis, Leon Balogun and Jon McLaughlin were all close behind.

And they’ll be hoping to overturn a 40-year hex if they are to get their Europa League campaign back on track as they've never won against clubs from the Czech Republic away from home.

They have yet to taste victory on Czech soil going back 40 years to their first visit against Dukla Prague in the former Czechoslovakia.

Since then they have played Sparta Prague, Viktoria Zizkov and Slavia Prague.
