Rangers players and Steven Gerrard agree to half wages amid coronavirus crisis

Rangers players are due to take wage deferrals of up to 50 per cent amid the ongoing coronavirus crisis

Steven Gerrard and his management will also take the temporary cuts in a bid to ease financial pressures on the Ibrox club for three months.

As reported by Daily Record, staff who agree to reductions will get the money owed back over time when the football season starts again.

It's understood most of the squad have already agreed to half their wages to help with the club's cash flow.

Meanwhile, it's also reported the players put the proposal to the board before agreement was reached.

It is believed youth players and staff who earn below a certain salary will be furloughed under the government's job retention scheme, with Rangers set to top up the wages, meaning no-one at the club will be put out of pocket.

A club statement read: "Rangers can confirm that first-team players, manager, coaches and executive directors have volunteered to take a salary deferral for the next three months.

"Senior players and staff were keen to ensure that no Rangers employee suffered financial hardship during this crisis."
