Police have said that a video appearing to show Rangers players singing sectarian songs was doctored to include sectarian language.
The footage, which circulated on social media on May 15 , showed a group of Light Blues players singing 'Sweet Caroline' during a celebration at Ibrox after the club won the league.
In the clip, chants of 'f**k the Pope ' could be heard audibly alongside the footage.
The video was investigated by Police Scotland who later confirmed no criminality had taken place.
Rangers football club also said the footage had been doctored.
Officers investigating the video have now confirmed their probe found the audio had been deliberately faked and had replaced the original sound, to include sectarian remarks.
The findings of an FOI have been released after cops were asked for clarification after no criminality was found.
In response Police Scotland said: "Enquiries were made by Greater Glasgow CID with full co-operation from Rangers Football Club.
"Witnesses who were present at the time were spoken to and no reports of sectarian language were made.
"A mobile device was provided to the police by a member of the group which had video recorded footage of the players singing the song in question.
"Specialists from Police Scotland’s Cyber Crime Unit reviewed the video and confirmed this was an original recording and that it had not been edited in any way.
"No sectarian language was heard.
"The assessment by Police Scotland is that the video circulated on social media was edited to include sectarian language.
"From the evidence gathered no crime has been established relating to the Rangers players or staff."
Police Scotland told the Record they would not like to add to what was written in the FOI response.
