Rangers player ratings vs Partick Thistle as Tillman and Raskin impress in Ibrox tie that had it all

Rangers had to once again come from behind under Michael Beale to avoid a huge Scottish Cup shock.

The Light Blues went in a goal down at the break after Kevin Holt fired past Allan McGregor from the penalty spot following a VAR review that penalised Antonio Colak for handball. The decision was branded 'mind boggling' from pundits Alan Hutton and Marvin Bartley in the studio but the Jags didn't care as they silenced Ibrox in an excellent all round display from Ian McCall's men as they took the holders all the way in a 90 minutes that had it all.

Beale made two half-time changes and whatever he said at the interval sparked life into his team with Colak levelling up the tie just five minutes into the second period. James Tavernier then had a golden chance to net from 12-yards after Malik Tillman was fouled but Jamie Sneddon stood big and denied the skipper, who smashed his effort down the middle. Tillman then put the hosts ahead in a moment of controversy at Ibrox with Beale instructing his side to allow the visitors to run through and level as he moved to clear up the situation at full-time after the USA international was down injured and wasn't aware.

But the holders managed to squeeze through with Conor McAvoy netting an own goal in a five-goal thriller. Here's how we rated the holders as they just about made it into the last eight as they continue the defence of the famous old trophy.

Allan McGregor - 7

Great save from a low free-kick on half hour mark followed moments later by a flying save to his right to deny Scott Tiffoney. No chance at penalty. Not amused at walk through goal.

James Tavernier - 6

Up and down as always but not the most influential display from the skipper. Played his part in leveller. Smashed a penalty down middle that was saved.

James Sands - 6

Big chance to stake a claim. Loan up in the summer with no indication over his future. Sound performance that allowed Connor Goldson a welcomed rest.

Ben Davies - 6

Big task up against Brian Graham. Always looks to bring the ball out of defence and get the team moving forward.

Borna Barisic - 6

As always caused a threat from set plays and crosses into the box. Up and down as per.

Glen Kamara - 6

A bigger role to play in the next few weeks with John Lundstram out. A few slack passes but always willing to get on the ball.

Nicolas Raskin - 8

In for his first start at Ibrox. Tidy touches and a nice turn of pace on ball. The one player looking to make things happen. Excellent work in the box to set up Colak's leveller. Can be delighted with his efforts.

Todd Cantwell - 5

Always willing and looking to make something happen but just wasn't his day. Subbed at half-time.

Malik Tillman - 8

In his moments he can be outstanding. Poor first half by his standards but turned up the heat in the second. Fouled for penalty that Tavernier missed. Scored Rangers' second goal in controversial moment. Key player.

Ianis Hagi - 5

A first start in over a year. Talented footballer who excites fans but didn't go the way he would have hoped. Hooked at break.

Antonio Colak - 7

A big chance to impress after an injury hit spell. Penalised by VAR for handball that gave Thistle a penalty and the lead. Headed home to score first goal in months.

Subs

Ryan Kent - 6

First involvement created Rangers' first opening of the game. Made a big difference to the side.

Kemar Roofe - 6

Should have done much better just three minutes after climbing off bench but fired wide. Like Kent, made a difference.

Alfredo Morelos - 3

On late on for the hosts to replace Colak.

Ryan Jack - 2

On for the final minutes to see out the win.
